The Poverello Center is Montana’s largest emergency homeless shelter and soup kitchen. The “Pov” sleeps seventy-five homeless residents a night and serves 100,000 hot meals, 365 days a year. Clients are homeless, working-poor, disabled, mentally ill, elderly, veterans, families and folks struggling with substance abuse recovery. The Poverello Center also operates transitional housing facilities for homeless families (The Joseph Residence) and for homeless veterans (The Valor House). Services at all sites include mental health facilities, medical facilities, a food pantry, a clothing room, hot showers, agency and job referrals, a laundry room, and many other services that enable our clients to move into safe, affordable housing and begin a life of integrity back in the work-force. There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Poverello Center. It relies on the help of the community to deliver services to its clients. Volunteers can do many things from cooking and serving a meal to helping with maintenance on the building. FPC is beginning to build a relationship with the Pov, and has provided support financially and with small volunteer groups. Food and clothing donations are also always accepted. In the future, FPC would like to have a more regular presence with volunteers on a monthly and/or weekly basis. For more information, please contact First Presbyterian Church at (406) 549-5144.
